Mum, 45, Gives Birth To Triplets After Six Years Of Trying, Four Mɪꜱᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇꜱ

A middle-aged couple welcomed triplets after four heartbreaking Mɪꜱᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇꜱ and spent around $15,000 (£11,300) on IVF. Leonie Fitzgerald, a business owner from Brisbane, Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀ, became the mother of three perfect daughters at the age of 44.

She refused to give up hope despite being diagnosed with low progesterone, which resulted in four Mɪꜱᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇꜱ. But Leonie and her husband, Peter, 51, took a leap of faith and tried to have another baby again with the help of IVF in January 2020. The couple has since become a child again. became proud parents on August 23 of last year when they welcomed triplets: baby Charlotte, weighing 4 pounds 2 ounces (about 1.87 kg), and ɪᴅᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴀʟ twins Liliana and Isabella, weighing 2 6 ounces (about 1.07 kg) and 3 pounds 5 ounces (about 1.5 kg) respectively.

Leonie said: “We spent almost six years trying to have a baby and it sucks to say. It took almost three years for me to get Pʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ naturally at the age of 41, we were delighted but our joy quickly turned to sadness when I miscarried at 13 weeks. We decided IVF was our only option and were filled with faith again. You never expect it not to work until it doesn’t. I miscarried three more times, once with IVF and twice naturally. Our dream of becoming parents was extinguished. ”

Leonie described her motherhood journey as a “lonely experience” as Mɪꜱᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇꜱwas a “taboo” topic. After the second round of IVF, Leonie quit her highly stressful job and started her own business in property investment and wealth. Adoption was not an option for the couple because the waiting list was five years — they felt they were “too old.” Despite spending around £55,000 ($75,000) on acupuncturists, herbalists, and many other healers and specialists – the couple had no joy in having children.

Leonie said: “We started to accept that being a parent wasn’t like that until I saw a physicist predict I would have twins. It was our third and final round of IVF and it worked.” Recalling the moment the ultrasound showed three heartBᴇᴀᴛs, Leonie said: “It was definitely the third lucky one. I remember we looked at each other and smiled. I spent the next week walking around like a zombie and was in complete sʜᴏᴄᴋ. But we believe you will get what you need, rather than what you want in life. We had to upgrade our house from a triple bed to a five bed. And buy an eight-seater car! ”

Leonie admits to feeling “ᴛᴇʀʀɪғɪᴇᴅ” in the event that she loses the children due to her age. She spent most of her pregnancy on bed rest due to severe morning sɪᴄᴋness before giving birth at 32 weeks and six days. However, labor did not go smoothly as Leonie was put in a 16-hour coma after a seizure and her heart rate increased. The triplets spent 34 days in the NICU before going home to their protective parents.

Leonie said: ‘I felt quite disconnected from them because I didn’t get the first cuddle. But we bonded together as I sat beside them while they were in the NICU. Peter and I didn’t grow up around kids so all we know is from the amazing nurses. It was surreal to bring them home — we didn’t know where to begin. They went through 10 diapers a day and 24 bottles a day from the very beginning. Sometimes we have to have 1,000 diapers in the house at once. We’re lucky enough to have a nanny four days a week — and help from our family and friends. I will not change our busy lives for the world. Being an older mom definitely has it’s [sic] advantages as we have a more positive approach to life these days and follow our intuition. Wisdom is on our side.”
